We need to do more!
This is not what we want to hear! But honestly if you are a woman starting or going through the menopause journey then you need to do more.
As our bodies change through the depletion of our hormones, oestrogen, progesterone and testosterone, we need to do more to energise, feel strong and nurture our wellbeing.
We need to strengthen our bones and increase muscle density to stay strong and lessen our chances of osteoporosis.
Learning about the menopause personally and professionally has been a big eye opener for me, I have always enjoyed being active and my job is quite physical, but it is not enough if I want to ensure I keep strong physically as I get older.
My physiotherapist shocked me one day when she asked me if I wanted to be able to get off the toilet when I am older? Of course I do ! But apparently a lot of older people have not got enough strength in their legs to pull themselves up off the toilet ! and can become a major problem. I can’t imagine this , and would hate to feel so vulnerable, so I use this as my huge motivator at the gym.
I didn’t know where to begin at the gym, what weights to lift or how many times, my Physio said I should lift a weight that I could not lift more than eight times, this is great as I am around the gym in 15 minutes. And 18 months later I am feeling and seeing the difference ! I include my yoga and swimming which I so love and enjoy, and it feels a joy if I can fit it all in before work in the morning. Such a great start to the day !
So, my advice to all you gorgeous women out there is do more, more exercise, include weight resistance, stretching, cardio, fun and enjoyment.
