A day in the life of being a student

A day in the life of being a student at BH Holistics Training Academy blog.

I often hear from my students how nervous they were arriving on the first day, not knowing what was going to happen and meeting new people for the first time. But, then all that nervousness and awkwardness soon disappears as they receive such a warm friendly welcome and before they know it everyone is chatting and new friendships are formed.

I always send full details of the day to the students, with instructions where to park and how to find the training academy.

The day usually starts at 10am, so all the students with children can drop them off first, or giving them plenty of time if they are travelling far. A warm welcome, friendly chatter over a cup of mint tea, introductions and get ready for the course to begin .

The morning is usually a good time to go through the manual, taking one lesson at a time , teaching in small groups ensures each person gets individual attention, understanding and the theory feels relevant, linking to the therapy. There are a few questions after each lesson to do at home to ensure understanding. We recap on all knowledge and understanding to embed learning each training day.

There is usually an hour for lunch, sometimes my students bring a pack lunch, go and buy soup and sandwich or find a nice cafe together.

The afternoons are full of practical learning of the therapy, students practicing on each other a lot of the time, as I truly believe that receiving and giving is an important part of the learning process and also makes you feel fantastic. It is like a spa day out !

I am very much a hands on teacher, and works with each student individually to help their learning process, demonstrating in various ways to compliment each persons learning style. I have been a qualified teacher and assessor for over 20 years and love teaching what I love most in the world ! I teach using many years of experience as a holistic and massage therapist, having my own business and learning everyday.

The day ends about 3pm, this allows mums to do the school pick up or who have other commitments. I always create a Whatsapp group if everyone is willing, this means we can all keep in touch and help each other.

Each training day that we meet , learning and understanding develops, friendships grow and support comes in abundance.

Practice at home is expected, the more case study work / practice you get, the more confident you will feel after the course.

At the end of the training , you will be qualified and ready to be a professional therapist in whichever course you did. There maybe an exam (don’t worry, I never do formal ! I just need to ensure that the knowledge and understanding required is met by each student. If it isn’t, then it is my job to ensure it is) We do it all together !

Practically, I have assessed your practical therapy work visually on each training day, but I also get you to do it on me, this helps me feel what the client will feel and help you to get your techniques perfect!

I will send you a link to my insurance company Westminster , this will enable you to get insured in your new therapy.

It is always very sad when the course ends as I love meeting all you beautiful ladies, and feel so grateful you came to my training academy. Hopefully, you all come back for another course again soon…

If you would like to join one of my courses please get in touch with me.
