Headaches & Migraines

Headaches and Migraines

A day in the life of a Holistic and massage therapist

Within my work as a holistic and massage therapist I meet a lot of clients who suffer with consistent headaches and migraines.

I look into my client’s holistic wellbeing and what may be causing headaches and migraines during our consultation to create a treatment plan to help them, including aftercare and advice too.

I ask lots of questions during the consultation to identify what may be causing the headaches and migraines.

·      Hormonal fluctuations may cause monthly migraines and headaches, a journal kept by the client will help to identify if this is the case. Some women also suffer more during the menopause transition.

·      Certain foods can also increase migraines and they should avoid cheese, chocolate, alcohol, cured meats, caffeine, and sweeteners.

·      Stress and tension can cause tightness around the neck, shoulders and scalp which causes headaches.

·      Not breathing properly and only taking shallow breaths.

·      Not enough fresh air.

·      Not drinking enough water and dehydration.

·      Even teeth being out of alignment can cause migraines.

Holistic and massage therapies I offer to help relieve headaches and migraines.

Reiki to help relieve the build up of stress due to overthinking and worry.

Reflexology to work on the head reflex point, hormonal reflexes and give a holistic treatment to increase wellbeing.

Massage to release the tight muscles and tension of the neck, shoulders, scalp, and face.

Indian face massage will release tension in the face and jaw area (especially helpful for clients who clench their teeth).

Indian head massage works specifically on the neck, shoulder, and scalp.

Holistic massage to release the stress and tension in the whole body, we don’t always just feel stress in one area of the body! and holistic massage feels amazing with hot stones and heated bamboo as the comforting warmth brings in more relaxation.

Hopi candle therapy can be very helpful in relieving a headache or migraine, especially if there are sinus problems, cold or flu causing a heavy head.

After care and advice

Pressing the end of the thumb can release stress headaches.

Ear-piercing the migraine point of the ear.

Breathing in for 3 seconds and breathing out for 6 seconds to relax and help the Vagus nerve.

A walk outside in the fresh air to breathe in the lovely oxygen and blow away all the stress.

Drink more water and avoid foods that may be causing intolerances.

Keep a daily journal to identify what may be causing consistent headaches and migraines.

Create a wellbeing plan to help client help themselves with relaxation, yoga, walking, aromatherapy, nutritional foods, affirmations, meditations, and other activities that will help each client uniquely.

Advise to go and see the doctor if still a persistent problem.
